Haabaa Golf Dictionary and Glossary of Golfing Terms

Lag - This is when a golfer tries to putt their ball close to the hole, to make sure that it is close enough to get it in the hole on their next stroke.
Lateral hazard - A hazard that runs adjacent to the line of play.
Lay up - Where a golfer plays a shorter shot than usual to avoid landing the ball with a bad lie or in/near a hazard, rather than to try and hit the green in one less shot.
Layout - The design of a golf course.
Leader board - This is a where the scores are placed during a match.
Lie - The position of a golf ball on the course after a stroke.
Line - The planned route of the golf ball.
Line up - Where a golfer looks carefully at the green to decide how to play the putt.
Links - A golf course that is close to the coast.
Linksman - Someone who plays golf.
Lip - The rim of the hole.
Lob shot - A shot with great height and little distance.
Local rules - Rules for a club decided by the member's of a club.
Loft - The angle of the clubface to the ground. The greater the loft, the higher the golf ball will go.
Long game - This is the part of the game where shots are hit with long irons and woods.
Loose impediments - Natural objects on a course that are not fixed i.e. stones.
LPGA - Ladies' Professional Golf Association.
