Haabaa Golf Dictionary and Glossary of Golfing Terms

Make the cut - To qualify for the final rounds in a match.
Mallet - A type of putter with a head that is heavy and broad.
Marker - Usually a small, flat object used to mark a ball's position when it is picked up of the green when other player's putt or when the ball is cleaned.
Markers - Objects placed to show where golfers must tee off.
Marshal - Someone who is selected to manage the crowd throughout a competition.
Mashie - A lofted iron club. Another name for a five iron.
Mashie-iron - A club with less loft than a mashie. Another name for a four iron.
Match play - A competition where each hole is won, lost or halved. The winner of the competition is the golfer who won the most holes.
Medal play - Also known as Stroke Play, Medal Play is where the winner of the competition is the golfer who has taken the least number of strokes to complete the round.
Medalist - The golfer with the lowest competition qualifying score.
Mis-club - Where a golfer uses an incorrect club for their shot.
Mis-read - Where a golfer does not read the green correctly, therefore putts incorrectly.
Mixed foursome - Two teams where each team has one female and one male golfer.
Model swing - A completely expert swing.
Muff - When a golfer incorrectly hits a shot.
Mulligan - When a golfer is allowed to take a second shot in friendly play when they have incorrectly hit their first shot.
Municipal course - A golf course that is owned by the government and open to the public.
